This blog post marks a new series where we shine a spotlight on the amazing efforts our colleagues are taking on for charitable causes. Enjoy!
On the 18th of August 2018, Robyn Gray, Union Square’s Marketing Manager, took a daring leap of faith as part of the 12th annual ARCHIE abseil.

Robyn abseiled down five storeys (60 feet) off the roof of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. This gravity-defying stunt was in aid of the ARCHIE Foundation, the official charity of the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. The charity raises money to fund ‘extras’ not provided by the NHS including specialist medical equipment, advanced staff training, child-friendly rooms and hospital spaces, and emergency grants to support children and their families during a long-term or emergency hospital admission.
After a late start to fundraising, Robyn and her team raised a fantastic £535 for the ARCHIE Foundation in only five days – this shows what can be achieved when you put your mind to it (or abseil down the side of a building!). Hammerson colleagues at Union Square were suitably impressed by these daredevil antics to raise money for local sick children and their families and offered the sage advice of “make sure you come back in”.

Robyn was motivated to take part after previously working with the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and seeing the amazing work achieved for seriously ill children. Despite using adjectives such as ‘daunting’ and ‘terrifying’, Robyn affirms that she would do it all again – next year it would be great to see more of the Hammerson taking part…!
Congratulations to Robyn for her fantastic achievement and fundraising!
